Field notes
False breaks inside Taiwan equity ranges
False breaks are not moral failures; they are part of how consolidations defend themselves. The mistake is treating every pierce as a regime change.
What we mark on the chart
In class we draw both the consolidation box and the false-break wick as separate objects. The wick is evidence that liquidity was taken beyond the edge; the box remains the structure until closes prove otherwise.
Journal phrasing that helps
Instead of “wrong again,” write: “Failed upside break, range intact, wait for fresh compression.” That sentence keeps you inside the process instead of abandoning the chart in frustration.
Local colour
Several spring examples came from mid-cap names that spiked on brief news then settled back into the prior three-week rectangle. Students who had already written a retest requirement stayed flat; those who entered on the first green close outside the high spent the afternoon defending a trade that never reclaimed follow-through.
